CAD DESIGN & 3D MODELLING

Practical CAD built around the part, process and next step.

Maikoot Limited creates and modifies 3D CAD models for product development, replacement parts, prototyping and manufacturing support.

Start with a sketch, drawing, existing file, scan or physical part. We will review what is available and confirm the most useful CAD route.

WHAT CAD DESIGN MEANS

CAD that helps move the project forward.

CAD defines the geometry, dimensions, interfaces and assembly details needed before a part is prototyped or manufactured.

We can build a new model, modify an existing design, repair a file or prepare agreed technical outputs. The scope and deliverables are confirmed before work begins.

CAD SUPPORT OPTIONS

Practical modelling for new, existing and legacy designs.

New 3D CAD models

Build a model from a brief, sketch, dimensions or agreed reference information.

Design modification & refinement

Change features, dimensions, clearances, fixing points or form around an existing design.

2D drawing to 3D CAD

Convert paper drawings, PDFs, scans or legacy dimensional information into a usable 3D model.

File repair & print preparation

Repair damaged geometry and prepare suitable files for prototyping or additive manufacturing.

3D CAD to technical drawings

Produce simple PDF manufacturing/reference drawings from an approved model, where agreed.

Organic & visual modelling

Support selected freeform, ergonomic or product-shaped modelling where suitable.

Physical-part reconstruction

Physical-part reconstruction and scan-to-CAD work are explained on the Reverse Engineering & 3D Scanning page.

2D TO 3D CONVERSION

Turn drawings and legacy information into usable CAD.

Paper drawings, scanned drawings, PDFs and dimensional sketches can be recreated as a 3D CAD model.

The result depends on the information supplied. Missing dimensions, unclear views or worn reference parts may require confirmation, physical measurement or a separate reverse-engineering route.

A CLEAR CAD WORKFLOW

Review. Model. Approve. Prepare the agreed output.

01 / REVIEW

Confirm the requirement

Confirm intended use, critical dimensions, source information and required deliverables.

02 / MODEL

Create the geometry

Create or modify the agreed CAD geometry.

03 / APPROVE

Review the revision

Customer reviews the named revision and confirms required changes.

04 / PREPARE

Issue the output

Issue the agreed output or move into prototype or production.

Deliverables and file release

Deliverables are stated in the quotation. A physical prototype or printed part does not automatically include editable source CAD files, native files or unrestricted manufacturing rights. File release or licensing can be agreed separately. See our Terms & Conditions.

SELECTED CAD EXAMPLES

Different geometry. The same practical modelling approach.

Fitted slide component

A compact functional model developed around mounting, guiding and clearance features.

Mechanical component

A multi-feature part developed around bores, mounting points and practical assembly geometry.

Organic surface model

A freeform body model showing how selected visual or shaped work can be supported.

PRICING GUIDANCE

Time-based CAD support with a clear minimum charge.

CAD Design & 3D Modelling is charged at £45 per hour including VAT, subject to a minimum design service charge of £60 including VAT.

CAD modification, file repair, 2D-to-3D conversion and technical drawing production start from £50 excluding VAT (£60 including VAT), depending on the information supplied and the complexity.

Final pricing is confirmed after review. Complex, open-ended or multi-part work receives a custom quotation.

START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

Start with the drawings, files or information you have.

Helpful project information

  • Sketches, drawings, PDFs or existing CAD files
  • Photographs or a physical part where relevant
  • Critical dimensions, interfaces and tolerances
  • Intended use and operating environment
  • Required output format and next manufacturing step
  • Target date and any known constraints

What happens next

  • We review the information supplied
  • We identify missing dimensions, conflicts or practical questions
  • We confirm the scope, deliverables and quotation
  • We create or modify the model and provide the agreed review revision
  • We prepare the agreed final output or move into prototype or production

Before production begins

For production work, the customer should approve the named CAD or drawing revision before manufacture begins.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

No. Work can begin from a sketch, PDF, photograph, dimensions, reference information or a clear description of the required result.
Yes. We can review suitable files and quote dimensional, feature or form changes. Repair work is added where the supplied file is damaged or unsuitable.
Yes, where the views and dimensions provide enough information. Missing or unclear details may need confirmation or physical measurement.
Yes. Simple manufacturing/reference drawings can be produced from an approved CAD model where included in the quotation.
No. The quotation states the agreed deliverables. Native files, file release, licensing or ownership transfer can be discussed separately.
