WHAT REVERSE ENGINEERING MEANS

More than copying the surface.

Reverse engineering begins with understanding what the part does, how it fits and which features must be retained, corrected or improved.

Depending on the project, we may use 3D scanning, manual measurement, photographs, existing drawings or a combination of methods. The result can be a cleaned mesh, reconstructed CAD model, replacement component or updated design.

Not every project needs every stage, and scanning is not always required.

SCANNING AND CAD RECONSTRUCTION

A scan is not automatically an editable CAD model.

A 3D scan normally produces a surface mesh. That may be suitable for visual reference, digital archiving or comparison, but replacement-part development often needs further cleanup or CAD reconstruction.

Some parts are faster and more accurately recreated through manual measurement. We choose the method around the geometry, condition of the part and the output you need.

Scanning and reconstruction are priced around the work required.

Basic in-house 3D scanning starts from £54.17 ex VAT (£65 including VAT) per suitable object.

Mesh processing, CAD reconstruction, redesign and replacement-part production are quoted separately according to the work required.

Off-site 3D scanning is planned as a Coming Soon service, with call-out from £150 ex VAT within approximately five miles of our Swindon workspace, plus scanning and related work.
